Cleaning Sandstone and Shopfronts: Getting a Frontage Back

Your frontage is the first thing a customer sees, before they read the sign or walk through the door. A shop, office or restaurant with green-stained stonework and a grimy step looks tired, however good it is inside. Cleaning the frontage is one of the cheapest ways to change that first impression.

Sandstone is exactly what it sounds like: sand grains bound together. It is softer than concrete or brick, and too much pressure wears the face away. That leaves the stone rougher, so it gets dirty again faster. On stonework we lower the pressure and let the cleaning solution do more of the work. We also work from scaffolding or access equipment where the height calls for it.

This sandstone plinth shows the difference halfway through. The cleaned side is back to its natural colour and the other side still has the green algae.

Street-level stone takes the most punishment: traffic spray, chewing gum, and algae where the pavement stays damp. We clean shopfront stonework, steps and the pavement area in front, and work around opening hours so the business keeps trading.
